Celebrate Recovery (often called CR) is a Christ-centered, 12-step recovery ministry where people work through hurts, habits, and hang-ups—anything from addiction and compulsive behaviors to grief, anxiety, codependency, trauma, anger, or family dysfunction. It’s usually hosted through a local church and includes teaching, worship, honest testimonies, and small groups built around safety and support.
A core part of CR culture is the Anonymity (and Confidentiality) Creed, which is basically the promise that what’s shared stays protected. The common wording you’ll hear is:
- “Who you see here, what you hear here, when you leave here, let it stay here.”
- And the reminder: “We are not here to fix each other.” (We’re here to support, not police or “correct” people.)
Celebrate Recovery protects the people who attend. It’s built to be a safe place where you can be honest without worrying that your story will turn into someone else’s gossip or “feedback.” That’s why the anonymity and confidentiality creed matters so much: what’s shared in CR stays in CR. And honestly—calling a leader trying to get information, stir things up, or complain because someone is learning boundaries completely misses the point. CR isn’t a place to monitor people; it’s a place where people heal.
